KATHMANDU: Two individuals have been arrested in Ramgram, West Nawalparasi, with a total of Rs. 1.2 million in cash, the source of which remains unaccounted for.

The arrest was made based on intelligence about cross-border hundi transactions from India to Nepal.

According to Police Inspector Narayan Thapa at the District Police Office in Nawalparasi, the two individuals were stopped for routine checks in the Bypass area of Ramgram Municipality-5.

The police found a significant amount of cash during the search.

The suspects, identified as 22-year-old Sukh Sagar Yadav from Bhaksipur, Palhinandan Municipality, and 39-year-old Shibendra Prasad Baniya from Piparpati, Pratappur Municipality, were carrying the cash in different locations on their bodies.

Yadav was found with Rs. 600,000, hidden in a bag containing 1,200 notes of Rs. 500 denomination.

Baniya was carrying Rs. 600,000, concealed in his jeans pockets and clothing, consisting of 200 notes of Rs. 500 and 500 notes of Rs. 1,000.

Both individuals were unable to explain the source of the cash, leading authorities to suspect their involvement in illegal hundi transactions.

Additionally, two Indian motorcycles with the registration numbers UP 56 H 1204 and UP 56 H 2573 were seized from the suspects.

Further investigation is underway, with the suspects being held in custody for an additional five days under a court order.
