KATHMANDU: The results of the Student Union (FSU) elections held at the affiliated and constituent campuses of Tribhuvan University have reached their final stages.
While there hasn’t been a significant difference in the competition among major student organizations, the Nepal Student Union (NSU), affiliated with the Nepali Congress, is leading, while the All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU), affiliated with the CPN-UML, has secured the second position.
The presence of the All Nepal Revolutionary Students’ Union (Akhil Krantikari), close to the Maoist Center, has also been notably strong.
According to Suraj Sejwal, the spokesperson for NSU, they have claimed victory in 109 constituent and community campuses so far.
Notably, NSU has won at four major campuses in Kathmandu: Thapathali Engineering Campus, Ayurveda Campus, Maharajgunj Medical Campus, and Nursing Campus.
Prakash Paudel, the spokesperson for ANNFSU, informed that their organization has won in 91 campuses.
ANNFSU has taken the lead in 11 constituent campuses, including Mahendra Ratna Campus at Tahachal, Lalit Kala Campus, and Nepal Commerce Campus in Kathmandu.
Regionally, ANNFSU has won campuses in various provinces: 15 in Koshi, 3 in Madhes, 22 in Bagmati, 10 in Gandaki, 23 in Lumbini, 8 in Karnali, and 10 in Sudurpashchim.
The All Nepal Revolutionary Students’ Union (Akhil Krantikari), affiliated with the Maoist Center, has also made a significant impact, winning in 81 campuses.
According to President Vijayprakash Sapkota, Akhil Krantikari has won in two constituent campuses in Kathmandu—Janaprasasan Campus and Sanothimi Multi-disciplinary Campus—along with seven other constituent campuses.
Other important campuses won by Akhil Krantikari include Bhojpur Multi-disciplinary Campus, Biratnagar Degree College, Nursing Campus in Biratnagar, Tribhuvan Multi-disciplinary Campus in Palpa, and Chitwan Engineering Campus.
Independent candidates have also shown success in certain campuses.
Swayam Shrestha, an independent candidate, was elected president at Pulchowk Engineering Campus. Similarly, independent candidate Prakash Dhami emerged victorious at the Institute of Engineering (Western Region Campus).
The preliminary results of this election indicate that there is no single dominant organization in student politics at Tribhuvan University.
