KATHMANDU: Madhav Sapkota, a Member of Parliament from the CPN (Maoist Centre), has demanded the formation of a high-level committee to investigate the illegal foreign currency worth Rs 25 crore seized in Kathmandu.

Speaking during a meeting of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, Sapkota expressed concern over the growing issue of financial crimes in the country.

He stated that such crimes could not occur without involvement from high-ranking individuals and called for necessary investigations to be carried out.

Sapkota urged the government to bring anyone involved in the incident, regardless of their status, under the law.

He said, “In cases like these, only low-level individuals like porters or drivers are arrested. After some time, the news dies down, and everything goes back to normal. On behalf of our party, we demand the formation of a special investigation committee to look into this case, and we insist that even high-level leaders or officials involved should be brought to justice.”

Kathmandu police had arrested two individuals in possession of nearly Rs 25 crore in cash, including U.S. dollars and euros. The two were arrested and the case was made public on Tuesday.
