Prachanda: Ex-King Gyanendra played villain in republic’s rise
He further mentioned that King Gyanendra contributed to the cause through his foolish actions.

KATHMANDU: Chairperson of the CPN (Maoist Centre), Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, has commented that former King Gyanendra Shah played a villainous role in the establishment of the republic.
Speaking at an event in Kathmandu on Tuesday, he stated that they laid the groundwork for the republic, while the then king Shah played the role of a villain.
He further mentioned that King Gyanendra contributed to the cause through his foolish actions.
Dahal expressed that had the seven political parties not betrayed him, the monarchy might have lasted a few more years.
He acknowledged that former King Shah had helped create the foundation for empowering the Nepali people and raising their awareness, paving the way for the socialist revolution.
Chairperson Dahal emphasized that it is not the time for constitutional amendments, but rather a review of the constitution.
He stated that only through a thorough review could meaningful amendments take place.
Dahal added that a comprehensive debate involving all political parties and forces must begin before amendments can take the right form.
He also urged for the initiation of a review debate about the constitution.
Dahal suggested that such a review must involve all political parties and forces that had contributed to the establishment of the constitution nearly 70 years ago.
He called for all these forces to come together for a critical debate to shape the amendments properly.
Additionally, Dahal mentioned that there is an increasing consciousness among the oppressed communities.
