KATHMANDU: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deepak Thapa on Tuesday afternoon assumed his duties.

Upon taking office, he made it clear that maintaining peace and security in the country would be his top priority.

Per the Cabinet’s decision on Monday, IGP Thapa, who was promoted to the position, was formally decorated with a badge of honor by Home Secretary Gokarna Mani Duwadi today.

On this occasion, Home Secretary Duwadi congratulated IGP Thapa on achieving the prestigious position of leading such a distinguished organization, wishing him a successful tenure ahead.

The ceremony was attended by Armed Police Force IGP Raju Aryal, Chief Investigation Director of the National Investigation Department Hutraj Thapa, Additional IGPs, senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Deputy IGPs, and journalists.

After assuming office, IGP Thapa stated that his goal was to ensure the growth and prosperity of Nepal Police, as well as to maintain peace, security, and public order in the country.

He expressed his belief that the contribution of all members of the organization would be key in achieving these objectives.

Prior to taking office, he paid tribute to the fallen police officers at the Amar Police Memorial within the Nepal Police Headquarters by laying a wreath and also planted a sapling in the office premises.
