Man dies, several others hospitalized after consuming wild mushrooms

KATHMANDU: A 30-year-old man, Narayan Magar, has died after consuming wild mushrooms in Tanahun District.

The incident occurred in the village of Sarvalang, located in the Myagdi Municipality-6, where Narayan consumed the mushrooms on March 14, which he had gathered from his farm and later cooked at his maternal home in Shanti Tol, Byas Municipality-6.

Narayan was hospitalized at Gandaki Medical College in Pokhara, where he passed away on Monday, according to Ashok Thapa, the spokesperson for the Tanahun District Police Office.

In addition to Narayan, 4-year-old Sumit Pulami is in critical condition after consuming the same mushrooms.

Other individuals who have fallen ill after consuming the mushrooms include 63-year-old Gurubahadur Pulami, 31-year-old Surendra Bahadur Pulami, 23-year-old Pabitra Magar, 42-year-old Tilbahadur Thapa Magar, 66-year-old Chakrabahadur Pulami, 18-year-old Aarti Pulami, 36-year-old Keshav Pulami, and 65-year-old Sita Pulami.

Authorities are urging the public to avoid consuming wild mushrooms, as many varieties are highly toxic and pose serious health risks.
