KATHMANDU: The Student Union election at Nandadevi Multi-Purpose Campus in Narharinath, Kalikot has been postponed due to growing tensions on campus.

Election officer Kamal Prasad Sapkota issued a notice last night at 10 PM announcing the suspension of the election, citing the uneasy atmosphere on the campus.

According to the notice, the election will remain suspended until further notice, pending the resolution of the tense situation.

The delay follows allegations by the Nepal Students’ Union (NSU) and the All Nepal National Independent Students Union (ANNISU) of foul play.

The two organizations reportedly gathered around 200 voter cards in bulk, prompting protests. On the 4th, student groups from Akhil Krantikari and Socialist Akhil staged a campus lockdown, accusing Nevisangh and ANNISU of rigging the election process by controlling the voter cards.

Ram Bahadur Batalo, Chairman of the Narharinath Congress, condemned the action, saying that after the alliance between the two major student organizations, Akhil Krantikari resorted to sabotage in fear of defeat.

Manashobha Budha, Chair of the Maoist Center Narharinath, added that the 200 voter cards held by Nevisangh and 150 by ANNISU were unfairly controlled, with one individual reportedly collecting all the cards.

The campus has around 425 voters, and the election is expected to proceed only once the voter cards are returned. Election candidate for the Student Union, Yashoda Shahi, stated that the lock will be lifted only after the return of the cards.

Meanwhile, elections will continue as scheduled at the nearby Sanni Triveni-based Janachetana Multi-Purpose Campus, which will begin at 9 AM.
