KATHMANDU: The Student Union (FSU) elections are being held today at the affiliated campuses of Tribhuvan University, while the elections at the university campus are scheduled for March 21.

A total of 21 members will be elected for the Student Union at the university campus, including 11 through direct voting and 10 through proportional representation.

There are 6,146 voters at the university campus who will cast their ballots to select the leadership.

The President, Secretary, and Treasurer will be directly elected. After the election of the Vice Chair, Assistant Secretary, and the remaining 21 members, leadership positions will be determined.

If one organization secures a majority, the Vice Chair and Assistant Secretary will be chosen from its members. In case no majority is reached, a consensus will be sought for the selection. If consensus is not achieved, the positions of Vice Chair and Assistant Secretary will be chosen by votes from the 21 elected members.

The voting will be conducted using electronic voting machines, with 20 machines to be used in the election, according to the Election Committee.

While preparations for the Student Union election are ongoing, a controversy has arisen.

On Monday night, the All Nepal National Free Student Union (ANNFSU) has locked down the Ratna Rajya Lakshmi (RR) campus, accusing the campus administration of issuing fake identification cards.

The union has called for an impartial investigation into the matter.

Meanwhile, citing security concerns, the Student Union election scheduled for today at Amrit Science Campus has been postponed.

Acting Campus Chief, Hom Bahadur Baniya, issued a notice announcing the postponement after some student organizations were absent from the meeting called on Monday.

The National Human Rights Commission will monitor today’s Student Union election to ensure its fairness.
