KATHMANDU: Premier International IB Continuum School has relaunched ‘Tato Khana’, a community-driven initiative aimed at reinforcing the value of hot meals and fostering a culture of collective responsibility.

The relaunch event took place at Jawalakhel Park in the presence of Lalitpur Metropolitan City Mayor Chiri Babu Maharjan, Lalitpur Metropolitan Police Chief Sitaram Hachhethu, and officials from the Ministry of Education.

The event also saw active participation from students, parents, and employees of the school, who came together to support the cause, contribute to the initiative, and spread awareness about the importance of sharing meals with those in need.

The ‘Tato Khana’ initiative was originally introduced as part of a social movement to encourage people to recognize the significance of a warm, nutritious meal. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the program was put on hold. With its relaunch, the initiative seeks to re-establish the value of a hot meal—not just as nourishment, but as a symbol of dignity, care, and community support. Unlike conventional food distribution programs, ‘Tato Khana’ does not offer meals for free. Instead, each meal is provided at a nominal cost of NPR 10, reinforcing the idea that people often value what they invest in.

Additionally, those who wish to contribute further have the option to donate meals for others, ensuring that more people can benefit from this initiative while preserving their sense of dignity.

Speaking on the occasion, Pawitra Limbu, School Director, Premier International IB Continuum School, emphasized the deeper message behind the initiative, stating: “A hot meal is more than just food—it represents warmth, dignity, and care. ‘Tato Khana’ is a small yet meaningful step in reminding ourselves to share what we have and to stand in solidarity with those who may need support.

This initiative is not just about providing food; it is about instilling values of empathy and social responsibility in our community.”

Lalitpur Metropolitan City Mayor Chiri Babu Maharjan expressed his solidarity with the movement and extended full support from the Lalitpur Metropolitan City. He stated, “Initiatives like ‘Tato Khana’ set an example of how small efforts can create a significant impact in society. The Lalitpur Metropolitan City fully supports this movement, and we hope to see it grow on a larger scale in a sustainable manner.”

The event was marked by a strong sense of unity and participation, with members of the school and local community engaging in discussions about the importance of valuing resources, practicing mindful consumption, and fostering a culture of giving.

The initiative is set to continue every Sunday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Jawalakhel Park, inviting individuals from all backgrounds to take part—whether by purchasing a meal, contributing to someone else’s, or simply spreading the message of kindness and generosity.
