KATHMANDU: The biography-based film “Anjila” about Nepal’s national women’s football team captain and goalkeeper, Anjila Tumbapo Subba, will donate all its profits towards building her home, as announced by producer Premkumar Shrestha.
Shrestha, who brought Subba from Ilam to Kathmandu to play for the Armed Police Force team, has launched the “Anjila Ko Aafnai Ghar” campaign.
He shared, “All profits from this movie will be used for Anjila’s home construction. We’re confident that the funds raised from screenings in Nepal and special exhibitions in Hong Kong, the UK, and South Korea will help us achieve this dream.”
Premkumar Shrestha is also known as Subba’s guardian, and the film, which premiered on the day of Holi (Falgun 29), has already made over Rs 20.7 million in its first three days of business, as reported by distributor Karan Shrestha.
“We’ve been gathering audience reactions across movie theaters in the Kathmandu Valley. The box office has been growing with each day, and the feedback has been very positive. We’re confident the revenue will continue to increase in the coming days,” said distributor Shrestha.
The film has been well received by audiences, with strong attendance continuing on the fourth and fifth days of screening. Further commercial statistics are expected to be released in the coming days.
Director Milan Chams mentioned that Subba’s own involvement in the film allows audiences to emotionally connect with her struggles and success.
“I agreed to direct this movie because I believed her story would inspire others. The audience has appreciated the story we wanted to tell. This success gives us the motivation to consider making films about the stories of other athletes in the future,” said Chams.
The movie stars Anjila Subba alongside Premkumar Shrestha, Sunil Thapa, Dayahang Rai, Bijay Baral, Srijana Subba, Mao Tse Gurung, Sumina Gurung, Buddhi Tamang, and others.
The film was produced with collaboration from Tubendra Limbu, Vinod Agrawal, and Rajesh Bagdiyal.
