KATHMANDU: In Padoulsthan market of Mahottari, locals staged a protest on Monday, leading to a market shutdown.

The protest was sparked by a recent incident where thieves broke into Shivshanti Jewelers in Balwa Municipality-3, Padoul market, and stole valuables worth lakhs of rupees.

According to reports, a group of thieves looted the shop on Saturday night and fled towards Bardibas, as seen in CCTV footage.

However, traders are upset that security personnel did not make any attempt to apprehend the culprits, which led to the market closure.

Arun Kumar Sah, the owner of Shivshanti Jewelers, reported that five thieves stole 20 tolas of gold, 150,000 rupees in cash, a vault (locker), and the hard disk of the shop’s CCTV camera.

After taking the CCTV hard disk, the thieves used a nearby camera to capture footage of the vehicle used for the robbery and the suspects involved.

The theft took place overnight, but it wasn’t until 9 AM on Sunday that the owner realized the shop had been robbed.
