Govt. to regulate benefits for former high officials through new law: Home Minister
Lekhak addressed concerns raised about the issue, assuring that the government is mindful of avoiding unnecessary financial burden on the state while offering such benefits.

KATHMANDU: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has clarified that the government is working on drafting a law to systematically regulate the benefits currently provided to former high-ranking officials, such as former Presidents and Prime Ministers.
Speaking in the House of Representatives on Monday, Lekhak addressed concerns raised about the issue, assuring that the government is mindful of avoiding unnecessary financial burden on the state while offering such benefits.
“Various opinions have been expressed regarding the provision of benefits to former officials, but the government’s stance is clear,” said Minister Lekhak. “The government has been providing these benefits for some time, but the goal now is to create a legal framework to organize and regulate them.” He emphasized that the government is conscious of the need to ensure that these provisions do not place an undue financial strain on the state.
The Home Minister further explained that while there is currently no formal law in place, the government has been offering benefits based on established criteria.
“The government will present the draft law in Parliament, ensuring that there is a balance between public acceptance and the economic condition of the state,” he added. “We will make decisions through legislation, ensuring clarity and accountability.”
