MP Dr. Wagle expresses concern over campus politics & declining education standards
He described the ongoing political maneuvering, which has led to campus blockades, as deeply troubling.

KATHMANDU: In a special session of the House of Representatives today, Member of Parliament (MP) Dr. Swarnim Wagle expressed his concern over the increasing dominance of partisan politics in campuses, stressing that students should focus on becoming agents of awareness rather than getting involved in political groupism. He described the ongoing political maneuvering, which has led to campus blockades, as deeply troubling.
Dr. Wagle pointed out that over a thousand campuses have been affected by factional politics for over a week, calling the situation a shameful display of political interests taking precedence over the purpose of education. He emphasized that campuses, traditionally a place for intellectual development and civic awareness, should not become playgrounds for party politics.
“To see the quality of education decline at schools like Budhanilkantha, where I myself studied, is disheartening. What was once a standard of excellence should be replicated across all schools, but now even it is starting to deteriorate,” he said. Dr. Wagle further emphasized that the role and structure of student unions in Nepal need to be redefined.
