MP Raghuji Pant opposes discussion on monarchy in parliament
He argued that the current constitution, which embraces the republic system, does not support the concept of monarchy.

KATHMANDU: In a statement made during Sunday’s session of the House of Representatives, Raghuji Pant, a member of the CPN-UML, firmly opposed any discussion on the restoration of the monarchy.
He argued that the current constitution, which embraces the republic system, does not support the concept of monarchy.
Pant emphasized that with the establishment of the republic, the monarchy had become a part of history.
He pointed out that, over time, monarchies worldwide have been abolished in favor of republican systems. Referring to Nepal’s history, he noted that various dynasties, including the Malla, Kirat, and Lichhavi, had once ruled, but questioned why discussions on re-establishing the Shah dynasty were being brought up now.
He further stated that democracy is driven by the will of the people and that the government must respond promptly to the concerns and sentiments of the public.
