KATHMANDU: The main opposition party, the CPN (Maoist Centre), has expressed strong opposition to the government’s proposal to grant lifetime privileges to former high-ranking officials through legislation.

Speaking during the meeting of the House of Representatives on Sunday, MP Devendra Paudel from the Maoist Centre raised concerns, stating that the government was losing its sense of judgment at a time when the country is listed on the grey list.

He also highlighted the plight of prisoners, pointing out that among the 29,500 inmates, 18,500 are suffering from health issues, and he demanded a response from the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Paudel further criticized the government for pushing the country into a deeper economic crisis instead of addressing the problems of the people.

He urged the government not to implement the provision granting lifetime benefits to former high-ranking officials.
