KATHMANDU: During the inauguration of the Women Leadership Conference organized by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Supplies and the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry today, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli emphasized the need for equal participation of women and men in all sectors to bring about positive changes in society.

Prime Minister Oli highlighted that Nepali traditions and culture portray women as powerful figures, almost like goddesses, and that their equal participation is essential.

He stressed, “Just as a chariot cannot move with only one wheel, we must advance society through the equal participation of both women and men.” He further added, “To eradicate poverty and establish social justice and equality, we must collaborate with the private sector.”

The Prime Minister noted that significant progress has been made in establishing women in key positions such as the Chair and Chief Justice, and women’s participation in politics continues to grow. “This is a matter of joy, but we must not be satisfied with just this achievement. We need to push for women’s advancement in education, entrepreneurship, and employment sectors,” he stated.

Emphasizing the importance of collaboration between the government and private sector, Prime Minister Oli expressed the government’s commitment to promoting industrial development and empowering women, while contributing to economic growth and good governance. “We must move forward. There is no room for going backward. The reverse gear should only be used on a curve. Democracy is our highway,” he declared.

The Prime Minister also emphasized that laws should not hinder progress but should facilitate development.

He promised that the government would study the suggestions from the conference to refine policies, practices, and laws.

Industry, Commerce, and Supplies Minister Damodar Bhattarai also spoke about the government’s priority to promote industrialization in collaboration with the private sector.

He mentioned that various reforms, such as guidelines for using domestic products in government agencies, are being implemented to support economic development.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Oli honored national football player Preeti Rai and social activist Rukhsana Kapali for their outstanding contributions.
