Nischal Basnet questions Censor Board’s qualification
His statement has sparked discussions on artistic freedom and censorship in the Nepali film industry.

KATHMANDU: Filmmaker and actor Nischal Basnet has questioned the qualifications required to be a member of Nepal’s Censor Board.
Taking to Facebook on Wednesday, Basnet expressed his frustration after the board halted the release of the film Rajagunj, which was scheduled to hit theaters on Chaitra 1.
He wrote, “Rajagunj has been stopped by the censor board. What are the qualifications to be a board member? Not understanding disclaimers, believing everything shown in films is real, not knowing the meaning of fiction—are these the requirements? No matter how realistic a film is, it is still a work of art. And those who don’t understand art are the ones censoring films in Nepal!”
