Govt. urged to address contemporary issues in zero hour

KATHMANDU: In today’s session of the House of Representatives, MPs raised concerns about several contemporary issues, urging the government’s attention to matters like education, healthcare, employment, peace and security, and road construction.
MP Bina Lama voiced dissatisfaction with the standards set by the National Natural and Environmental Commission, alleging that the commission’s criteria for equalization grants were made in favor of certain groups. She further claimed that commission officials were involved in misusing USAID projects without the commission’s approval and called for an update on the issue in the House.
MP Shyam Kumar Ghimire highlighted the ongoing landslide problem in Akkerebhir, located on the northern side of the Sugure Khola in Sindhuli. He emphasized that the landslides frequently disrupt transportation and pose risks to vehicles, especially during the monsoon season, and urged the government to address this issue.
MP Shanti Bika raised concerns over the misinterpretation of democratic republicanism by certain individuals, stating that the monarchy of the past was no longer a possibility in the current context. She stressed the need for the government to focus on economic improvement, job creation, quality education, affordable healthcare, infrastructure development, security, justice, and sustainable development.
MP Shiva Nepali called for attention to the rights, rehabilitation, and financial education of incarcerated women. Meanwhile, MP Shishir Khanal demanded action from the government to solve the ongoing water supply problem in the Kathmandu Valley.
MP Sher Bahadur Kunwar urged the government to address the demands of protesting teachers who have been demonstrating in recent days. MP Shobha Ghyawali pointed out the necessity of modernizing and commercializing agriculture for the country’s development.
MP Santosh Chaalise raised the issue of constructing four bridges on the Jorpati-Sundarijal road in Kathmandu, calling for immediate government action. MP Santosh Pariyar brought attention to the delays in the expansion of the Sunge Binayak-Sanga-Dhulikhel road and urged the government to expedite the project.
Other MPs, including Shankar Bhandari, Sarita Bhusal, Dr. Swarnim Wagle, Shanti Chaudhary, Sumana Shrestha, Sunita Baral, and Saraswati Subba, also raised various contemporary issues, urging the government’s attention to the pressing needs of the nation.
