KATHMANDU: A seven-point declaration, passed during the 10th conference of the Inter-Parliamentary Forum of Nepal, has been handed over to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli at his official residence in Baluwatar.

The declaration, reflecting the conclusions of the conference held from Dec 16-19 in Pokhara, Gandaki Province, emphasizes the importance of accelerating federalism and the implementation of the constitution.

The handover ceremony saw the participation of key political figures, including Speaker of the House of Representatives Devraj Ghimire, Chair of the National Assembly Narayan Prasad Dahal, Deputy Speaker Indira Rana, Deputy Chairperson Vimala Ghimire, and other representatives from the seven provinces.

The declaration stresses the commitment to enhance the relationship between the federal, provincial, and local governments, particularly in the context of laws being developed under the shared list of the three tiers of government.

It also includes a commitment to initiate the identification and study of pending laws to facilitate their passage by the federal parliament.

Additionally, the declaration highlights the need to improve the work of parliamentary committees through effective coordination and facilitation, with a focus on clarifying the roles of deputy speakers at the federal and provincial levels.

The declaration also outlines a plan to begin monitoring law implementation in coordination with both the federal and provincial governments, alongside efforts to provide parliamentarians with analytical and research-based services.

During the ceremony, Prime Minister Oli emphasized the importance of strengthening coordination and cooperation among all levels of government and assured his readiness to offer support for effective collaboration.

He also expressed that the government, in alignment with the economic capacity of the state, should only submit budget proposals to parliament when necessary and in accordance with the leadership’s directions.
