KATHMANDU: A man attempted self-immolation in Chandragiri late last night but was swiftly rescued and taken to Kirtipur Burn Hospital for treatment.

The incident occurred around 12:30 AM when Uttam Karki went live on Facebook before setting himself on fire.

Upon receiving information, the police rushed to the scene and rescued him immediately.

According to Kathmandu Police Spokesperson Apil Bohara, Karki sustained burns on his hands and face, but his condition remains stable.

In the Facebook live video, Karki expressed distress over mental stress, his detention due to a local woman, and deteriorating family relationships.

He also mentioned the hardships faced by his hearing-impaired father and visually impaired mother, stating that he could no longer bear the pain.

Karki further revealed that he had previously spent 18 days in custody on charges of indecent behavior.
