Fugitive in Bhojpur homicide case held after 24 years
Shanta Kumar attacked Vijay Kumar on the 13th of Shrawan 2057 B.S. (July 28, 2000), beating him severely.

KATHMANDU: Bhojpur District Police have arrested a fugitive in a murder case 24 years after the crime.
The accused, 46-year-old Shanta Kumar Rai from Paudadumma Rural Municipality-6, was apprehended on March 9, 2025.
He was involved in the 2057 B.S. (2000) killing of Vijay Kumar Rai, a resident of what was then known as Thulo Dummagavi-8 in Bhojpur.
Shanta Kumar attacked Vijay Kumar on the 13th of Shrawan 2057 B.S. (July 28, 2000), beating him severely.
Vijay Kumar succumbed to his injuries on the 18th of Shrawan, 2057 B.S. (Aug 2, 2000) during treatment at the District Hospital, Bhojpur.
After the murder, Shanta Kumar fled the area and lived in hiding for years.
Following an extensive manhunt, he was finally captured in his hometown on March 9, 2025.
Shanta Kumar Rai has been sent to the District Jail, Bhojpur, to serve his sentence after being arrested on Feb 27, 2025.
The arrest was publicly announced on Monday.
