KATHMANDU: Monarchist supporters and various political parties and organizations have made grand preparations in Kathmandu to welcome former King Gyanendra Shah, who is returning from Pokhara. A large rally has been organized as part of the welcome, spearheaded by monarchist factions.

However, RPP President Rajendra Lingden will not participate in the rally. The party has entrusted the responsibility of leading the welcome event to Chief Whip Gyanendra Shahi and spokesperson Mohan Shrestha. Shahi confirmed the news, stating, “The president will not be attending today’s event. He has assigned me and spokesperson Shrestha to lead the welcome program.”

Spokesperson Shrestha also mentioned that no official confirmation about the president’s participation had been received. Monarchist groups are gathering at various locations in Kathmandu, including Gaushala and Thamel, and will march towards the main gate of the airport in Sinamangal to welcome the former king. From there, the procession will move to Nirmal Niwas.

The arrival of former King Shah has sparked a competition among political parties and royalist groups, each trying to win the favor of the monarch. The RPP, RPP Nepal, and other royalist factions have been working to make the welcome event grand and impactful, using the occasion to demonstrate their support for the monarchy.

In response to the large crowds expected and to prevent any untoward incidents, the local administration has implemented heightened security measures. Law enforcement agencies are on high alert, with additional security personnel deployed at key locations to ensure peace and order during the event.
