KATHMANDU: The construction of a 6-lane road in Duhabi, Sunsari, resumes following the demolition of structures along the designated area.

The Duhabi Municipality used dozers on Thursday to remove 58 structures, confirming the road expansion project will proceed.

As part of the Rani–Biratnagar–Itahari–Dharan road section, 62 homes were initially set to be demolished for the road project.

However, only four remain to be torn down after a 30-day deadline expired on Wednesday.

Earlier, local residents had filed a lawsuit, but their petition was rejected by the court a month ago, leading to the demolition order.

Following the clearance of the structures, a 630-meter stretch will be developed for the 6-lane road, with a tender process soon to be initiated.

Seven excavators were employed to ensure a 6-meter setback on both sides of the road.

Though many residents voluntarily demolished their homes, some resisted, forcing authorities to use force in certain instances.

The road expansion will significantly enhance connectivity in the region.
