Four held with undisclosed cash worth Rs 2.89 million

KATHMANDU: Kapilvastu police have arrested four individuals with a total of Rs 2.89 million in undisclosed cash from an underground clothing warehouse at KC Fancy Store in Banganga Municipality-4, Jeetpur.

Acting on a tip-off, police apprehended 30-year-old Govinda BK of Sandhikharka-5, Arghakhanchi, around 3 PM on Thursday.

He was found in possession of 1,800 Indian banknotes of Rs 500 denomination, totaling INR 900,000 (equivalent to Rs 1.44 million).

Similarly, police confiscated Rs 1,450,000 from 38-year-old Somnath Kasoudhan of Mayadevi Rural Municipality-8, Kapilvastu.

He had 1,294 Nepali banknotes of Rs 1,000 denomination and 312 notes of Rs 500 denomination.

Two others, 41-year-old Basanta Kharel of Butwal Sub-Metropolitan-16 and 42-year-old Sheshnarayan Giri of Kapilvastu Municipality-11, were also arrested in connection with the case.

The suspects, along with the seized Nepali and Indian currency, have been handed over to the Revenue Investigation Office in Butwal for further inquiry, according to DSP Mohan Mani Adhikari.
