Stupa construction underway in Temkemaiyung
It is being constructed with a focus on Buddhist communities, aiming to enhance both religious and tourist activities in the area.

KATHMANDU: A stupa is being constructed in Temkemaiyung-9, Panchdhare, Bhojpur, with the goal of promoting tourism and fostering religious harmony.
The project, funded by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation with an investment of Rs 2.7 million, is being built with materials sourced from Dakshinkali, Kathmandu.
According to Nabhraj Mangpahang, the ward chairperson of Lekharka in Temkemaiyung-9, the stupa will resemble the famous Boudhanath Stupa in Kathmandu.
It is being constructed with a focus on Buddhist communities, aiming to enhance both religious and tourist activities in the area.
“The development of the stupa is a step towards promoting religious tolerance while boosting the tourism sector,” Mangpahang said.
“Panchdhare holds great tourism potential, and this project will contribute significantly to its development.”
In addition to the stupa, plans include constructing walking paths, a protective enclosure, and planting trees around the site.
The construction of the stupa is part of a larger initiative to develop Panchdhare as a significant religious tourism hub, with the goal of building ‘Panch Dhams’ in the area.
Mangpahang also shared that an 80 million Rs project is underway to build a Kirat cultural hall, targeting the Kirat community.
Following this, a plan to build a Pashupatinath temple for the Hindu community is also in the works.
The overall objective is to create a space where all communities can come together and benefit from the developments, with structures designed to accommodate the cultural and religious diversity of the area.
Local tourism is already on the rise, with the preservation of Panchdhare Pokhari and Kirateshwar Stone Garden, as well as the construction of walking paths, boosting internal tourism.
Rama Devi Rai, the deputy chairperson of the Temkemaiyung Rural Municipality, emphasized that the municipality is focused on planned development, prioritizing agriculture and tourism to enhance the livelihoods of local residents.
