Two sisters killed in road accident in Gaighat

KATHMANDU: Two sisters lost their lives after being hit by a vehicle near DM Gate on the road leading to Triyuga Bus Park in Gaighat, the district headquarters of Udayapur.
The victims have been identified as 14-year-old Anukumari Das and 12-year-old Devikumari Das, originally from Rajbiraj, Saptari, and residing in Gaighat.
District Police Office spokesperson DSP Kedarman Dong confirmed the incident.
The accident occurred on Thursday evening when a jeep (Province 1-05-001 Cha 092) heading towards Triyuga Bus Park from Gaighat Bazaar struck the sisters, who were sitting on the roadside near DM Gate.
Anukumari died on the spot due to severe injuries, while Devikumari succumbed to her injuries during treatment at Udayapur District Hospital, police said.
The jeep driver, 18-year-old Nirjal Katuwal from Triyuga Municipality-9, Gairun, has been taken into police custody.
Authorities have also confirmed that the vehicle belongs to Gaighat Himshikhar Furniture Industry.
