Tipper crashes into shelter in Sankharapur, killing 3

KATHMANDU: A tragic accident occurred at the shelter home run by Conflict Victims and Disabled Society Nepal (CVDS) in Salambutar, Shankharapur Municipality-6.

At around 3:40 AM on Friday, a tipper (Ba 2 K 6580) lost control and crashed into the shelter, killing two children and an elderly man, according to CVDS founder-chair Yuvraj Thapa.

The organization had named the children Akash and Suman, who died on the spot, while the elderly victim, Harijan, succumbed to injuries during treatment at Nepal Medical College, Attarkhel.

Police reached at the scene immediately and transported the victims to the hospital, where doctors declared the elderly man dead at 4:33 AM.

The tipper was being driven by 25-year-old Sagar Maji from Sindhupalchowk.

He is currently in police custody as investigations continue.

CVDS has been operating the shelter since 2005 (BS 2062) and currently houses 61 residents.

The accident occurred in a section where 10 people were staying.

The tipper was removed from the site with the help of a dozer.
