KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Praasad Paudel has stated that the government has introduced an ordinance on privatization to improve the condition of public institutions in which the government has invested.

While responding to questions raised on a proposal to reject the privatization ordinance during Wednesday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, he emphasized that using the term “public enterprise management” instead of the term “privatization law” was not inappropriate in any sense. He mentioned that the government cannot sit idle as many public enterprises are running at a loss.

He pointed out that some public institutions are facing losses and others have not been able to generate profits, which is why the privatization ordinance has been introduced.

He also suggested that opposition parties should engage in constructive criticism rather than simply opposing for the sake of opposition.

He stressed that effective management of public institutions is a necessity in today’s context.
