KATHMANDU: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed gratitude for the support his country has received from the United States, emphasizing Ukraine’s commitment to peace.

In a lengthy post on social media platform X, Zelensky highlighted America’s crucial role in the context of war and peace. He stressed that Ukraine does not seek an endless war and is ready for negotiations to establish lasting peace. “I want to reiterate Ukraine’s commitment to peace. We are ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible to achieve sustainable peace,” he wrote.

Zelensky also hinted at his willingness to engage in peace efforts under former U.S. President Donald Trump’s leadership.

However, his recent visit to Washington was not without controversy.

While at the White House for discussions on mineral agreements, he faced strong disagreements with Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance. Following the meeting, Zelensky expressed disappointment, stating that the talks did not go as expected.

“Our meeting did not unfold as it should have. This is unfortunate. But now, it is time to set things right,” he remarked. Despite the tensions, he reaffirmed Ukraine’s readiness to sign agreements on minerals and security cooperation.

The visit came at a challenging time, as the U.S. has halted military aid to Ukraine.

This decision has further complicated Zelensky’s diplomatic efforts, raising concerns about the future of U.S.-Ukraine relations.

The next steps in this partnership remain a subject of global attention.
