KATHMANDU: The US government continues to deport undocumented Nepalis under its strict immigration policy.

A chartered flight carrying Nepali nationals who were working illegally and had received deportation orders has taken off for Kathmandu.

According to sources at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), a Griffon Air chartered flight is bringing back 10 Nepali citizens.

The small Gulfstream aircraft is scheduled to land in Kathmandu at 10 AM today, with airport authorities granting it necessary clearance.

The flight departed from Portsmouth International Airport in New Hampshire, USA. It is expected to make a brief stop at Tirana International Airport in Albania to drop off some passengers before heading to Nepal.

Upon arrival in Kathmandu, the deported Nepalis will undergo immigration and legal procedures before being handed over to relevant authorities or their guardians.

This follows a similar deportation on December 16, when the US government repatriated 15 Nepali nationals via a chartered flight.

With the Biden administration enforcing stricter immigration policies, undocumented Nepalis in the US face heightened risks of deportation.

Earlier, former US President Donald Trump had vowed to implement a tougher crackdown on illegal immigrants if re-elected.

In response to the growing deportations, the Nepalese government has pledged to assess the impact of US immigration policies on its citizens and provide necessary support.

Legal experts advise Nepali citizens to ensure proper documentation and complete all legal procedures before traveling abroad to avoid such situations.

Reports suggest that more Nepalis may face deportation in the coming months as US immigration authorities intensify investigations into undocumented immigrants.
