KATHMANDU: Karnali Provincial Hospital has successfully provided kidney transplant services to six patients.
The service, launched in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Population and the Shahid Dharmabhakta National Transplant Center, aligns with the policies and programs of the Nepal government.
Dr. Pukar Chandra Shrestha, Director of the Shahid Dharmabhakta National Transplant Center, highlighted that the introduction of transplant services in Karnali has not only benefited the province but also helped patients from other regions.
With this facility in place, patients no longer need to travel outside the province for kidney transplants.
The first-ever kidney transplant at the hospital was performed on Magh 21, 2079 BS.
According to Dr. Shrestha, Karnali Provincial Hospital is ahead of many other hospitals in the country in terms of service delivery.
“This hospital is providing excellent services,” he said. “Additionally, the National Transplant Center will offer a one-year fellowship program to two doctors from Karnali, ensuring that the hospital can conduct transplants independently without relying on medical personnel from Kathmandu.”
Dr. Keshar Dhakal, Director of Karnali Provincial Hospital, stated that the hospital is also expanding other specialized services.
It has already introduced oncology services for cancer treatment, along with general surgery and other medical procedures.
Furthermore, the hospital has completed testing for the Cath Lab service, which will be used for diagnosing and treating heart diseases.
