Minister Pathak slams mayor Balen over leadership & governance
The minister's response comes after Balen made a social media post targeting Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

KATHMANDU: Gandaki Province’s Minister for Health, Krishna Pathak, has strongly criticized Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balen Shah.
The minister’s response comes after Balen made a social media post targeting Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
In a Facebook status, Minister Pathak questioned Balen’s leadership abilities, urging him to follow legal procedures and governance norms. He criticized Balen’s approach, stating that the mayor should act within the framework of rules and regulations instead of expressing dissatisfaction on social media.
Addressing Balen directly, Pathak wrote, “Failing to gather enough evidence to take action against the Chief Administrative Officer, hiding investigation reports, barring the sitting officer from entering the office, and then blaming the Prime Minister for not sending a new executive—what kind of approach is this, Balen?”
Pathak urged Balen to work within legal boundaries, adding, “We are also working from our executive positions. No one is above the law, including you.”
The minister also accused Kathmandu Metropolitan City of failing to utilize its capital expenditure effectively. “You couldn’t even spend one-fourth of the allocated budget, yet you make loud claims! Remember, others can also raise their voices just as loudly,” he remarked.
Minister Pathak has previously drawn controversy for his remarks, particularly on the case involving cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane. His latest strong response to Balen is expected to spark further debate.
