KATHMANDU: US President Donald Trump has halted military aid to Ukraine following a dispute with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

According to Bloomberg, the decision came just hours after Trump claimed on Truth Social that Zelensky wanted war.

The White House stated that all aid would remain suspended until Kyiv creates a “credible environment for negotiations.” The US has also halted the shipment of military equipment, including those already in Poland.

Last week, a heated argument reportedly took place between Trump and Zelensky at the White House.

Zelensky, who had traveled to Washington for a mineral agreement discussion, also clashed with Vice President J.D. Vance.

Following the confrontation, Zelensky headed to London, where European leaders held a meeting.

He later claimed that Europe had provided “clear support” for Ukraine.

So far, neither the US Department of Defense nor Trump has officially commented on the matter.

Trump Imposes 25% Tariff on Canadian and Mexican Imports

Trump has announced a 25% tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico, effective from Tuesday. Additionally, goods imported from China will face an extra 10% tariff, raising the total tax rate to at least 20%.

Following this decision, U.S. stock markets saw a decline. The Trump administration justified the tariff hike by accusing these three nations of contributing to illegal immigration.

Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly criticized the move, warning of worsening job crises in Canada. She emphasized efforts for a diplomatic resolution but hinted at necessary countermeasures.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum expressed willingness to cooperate with the U.S. while asserting that Mexico would not succumb to pressure.

Trump defended the tariff increase, claiming it would boost domestic production and address trade imbalances. He argued that America’s long-standing trade ties with Canada and Mexico would prevent major economic losses.

Meanwhile, Canadian and Mexican officials in Washington attempted but failed to halt the implementation of the tariffs. Experts predict the trade relations among the three nations will become more complex.
