Machhindra, Army face off in KP Oli Cup final today

KATHMANDU: Defending champions Machhindra FC and Tribhuvan Army FC will clash in the final of the KP Oli Cup football tournament today at Dasharath Stadium.

Army is playing its first knockout final of the year, while Machhindra aims for a hat-trick of KP Oli Cup titles. This will be Army’s fourth tournament of the year but its first final appearance.
In contrast, Machhindra is playing its fourth final this season, having won the Itahari Gold Cup and reached the finals of the Panchthar and Bagmati Gold Cups.
Army, which won the Aaha Rara Pokhara Gold Cup last year, is participating in its fourth tournament of the season, having competed in the Triveni Cup (Lamjung), Aaha Gold Cup, and Bagmati Gold Cup before entering the KP Oli Cup. Army defeated Nepal Police Club 2-0 in the quarterfinals and Sankata Club 2-1 in the semis.
Machhindra, on the other hand, edged past Bhutan’s Transport United 1-0 in the quarterfinals and thrashed hosts KP Oli FC 4-0 in the semis.
Adding to the excitement, legendary Italian goalkeeper and former national team captain Gianluigi Buffon has already arrived in Nepal and will be the chief guest at the final.
