Zelensky visits UK after tensions with Trump, signs $2.8B military aid deal
Zelensky expressed gratitude for the UK's continued support and also announced a meeting with King Charles III.

KATHMANDU: Just 24 hours after a tense dialogue with US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky engaged in a significant meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Following discussions at Downing Street, the UK signed an agreement to provide Ukraine with a $2.8 billion loan, which will be used for the purchase of weapons. Zelensky expressed gratitude for the UK’s continued support and also announced a meeting with King Charles III.
During the talks, Prime Minister Starmer reaffirmed the UK’s steadfast commitment to Ukraine, stating, “The United Kingdom stands firmly with Ukraine.” In response, Zelensky conveyed his appreciation for the unwavering friendship and support from the UK during these challenging times.
However, Zelensky faced a rough patch in the US. His talks at the White House with President Trump and Vice President JD Vance turned controversial, with sharp disagreements over a proposed mineral agreement between the US and Ukraine. This led to the cancellation of the deal, further complicating relations between the two nations.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Starmer is playing a pivotal role in bridging the gap between Europe and the US. On Sunday, he called for a meeting of European leaders in London to discuss efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war and address European security concerns.
While Zelensky left the White House feeling slighted, his visit to the UK was met with warmth, signaling a deepening of the UK-Ukraine relationship.
