Pokharel warns of geopolitical tensions, stresses importance of neighbor relations & regional peace
Pokharel further mentioned that both Russia and Ukraine are facing devastating consequences from the war, and the situation suggests that ending the conflict would require a significant price to be paid.

KATHMANDU: Shankar Pokharel, the General Secretary of the ruling CPN-UML, emphasized that the direct dialogue between the United States and Ukraine teaches every nation the importance of prioritizing relations with neighboring countries for national interests.
He stated that when relations with neighbors deteriorate, even powerful nations suffer. Foreign support against neighboring countries is often temporary and driven by self-interest, Pokharel wrote on Facebook.
Pokharel further mentioned that both Russia and Ukraine are facing devastating consequences from the war, and the situation suggests that ending the conflict would require a significant price to be paid.
He stressed that regional peace is crucial for global peace, and if Asian countries focus on strengthening their mutual relations, Asia could once again become the center of global civilization.
He also warned that America’s current strategy could turn Asia into the epicenter of geopolitical conflict in the future.
Additionally, he criticized the plans in Gaza to seize land from the Palestinians, as well as U.S. efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war, stating that these actions are not aligned with the objective of global peace.
According to Pokharel, the primary interest driving these efforts is the acquisition of mineral resources.
He cautioned that such self-serving policies could lead to new types of geopolitical conflicts driven by economic interests, urging Asian nations to remain particularly vigilant in this regard.
