From ‘Meri Bassai’ to ‘Hostel 3’: Aashish Ghimire’s rise to the big screen

KATHMANDU: The trailer of the much-awaited Nepali film Hostel 3, set to release on March 7 (Fagun 23), has gained massive attention.

The film has topped Nepal’s YouTube trending list and is also trending in around 20 other countries, including India.

The movie features a fresh cast, including social media personality Paras Bam, Aashish Ghimire (popular as ‘Dhundhukari’), Padam Tamang, Rhyaan Giri, Simran Panta, Hena Nagarkoti, Sama Parajuli, Santosh Baniya, Umar Khan, and Rohan Shrestha.

For all these actors, Hostel 3 marks their big-screen debut.

Among the lead actors, Aashish Ghimire started his acting career at just one and a half years old with the TV serial Geetanjali.

At the age of six, he gained fame for playing ‘Dhundhukari’ in the popular comedy show Meri Bassai for five years. He later appeared as the younger version of Sandeep Chhetri in Signature and acted in the serial Jureli.

Prioritizing his education, Aashish took a break from acting, completed his Bachelor’s degree in IT after high school, and worked as an assistant director and scriptwriter for several series and music videos.

After graduation, he joined Aarohan Gurukul under Sunil Pokharel to refine his acting skills. He performed in a street play and acted in Gachchhami, directed by Pokharel, and Kaal, directed by Ram Bhajan Kamat.

Aashish landed the role of ‘Shiva’ in Hostel 3 after an intense audition process.

The film’s director, Sushan Kandel, revealed that Aashish was the perfect fit for the role after multiple rounds of auditions.

Written and co-directed by Madhav Sharma, Hostel 3 is produced by Suresh Kandel, Karna Karki, and Govinda Adhikari, with co-producers Shishir Gyawali, Anish Sigdel, Kundan Gupta, and Ganesh Magar.

Shankar Koirala serves as the executive producer, while Kosis Raj Kshetri is the line producer.

The film boasts a talented crew, including cinematographer Arjun Tiwari, editor Bikash Dahal, action director Himal KC, and choreographers Praveen Singh and Roshan Bishwakarma.

The music is composed by Arjun Pokharel, Almoda Rana Uprety, Mahesh Gyawali, and Kiran Michael.

For distribution, Hostel 3 will be handled by Kafia Films (Govinda Shahi) in Kathmandu Valley and RR Films (Rohit Kattel, Ratna Shrestha) outside the valley.
