Collaborative initiative for cervical cancer prevention and treatment

KATHMANDU: Marie Stopes International Nepal and Rotary Club of Kathmandu joined hands for a cervical cancer screening camp.

Cervical cancer screening (Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid (VIA) test and other Gynae checkup services were successfully provided by the Sunaulo Pariwar Nepal, an implementing partner of Marie Stopes International (MSI).

The services were provided at the integrated health camp organized by Trishakti Yuwa Club, Gahana Pokhari, Kathmandu.

The Cervical Cancer screening service was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Kathmandu while other services like eye checkups were provided by Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology, and kidney and basic health checkups were provided by Green City hospital.

The camp was organized to create awareness and prevention of cervical cancer through early detection by providing screening services to the community women, shared senior advisor to Marie Stopes International, KP Upadhyay.

Minister of Health and Population Pradeep Paudel officially inaugurated the health camp, highlighting the government’s commitment to accessible healthcare services.

As part of this initiative, Marie Stopes Centre Putalisadak took the lead in conducting the VIA screening at the camp, ensuring that women received critical cervical cancer screening services to promote early detection and prevention, the MSI sources noted.

During the camp, 90 community women were tested through visual inspection with acetic acid (VIA). Among them, six were tested positive who were counselled and referred to the Marie Stopes Centre, Putalisadak and other higher facilities for further treatment.

The camp emphasized the significance of community-based health initiatives and collaborations in improving women’s health especially cervical cancer.

This collaborative initiative raised awareness about cervical cancer prevention while also emphasizing the need of early detection at the community level.

The camp helped strengthen Marie Stopes Centre’s presence and services within the local community.
