Barcelona & Atletico Madrid play 4-4 draw in Copa del Rey semifinal first leg

KATHMANDU: Barcelona and Atletico Madrid played out a breathtaking 4-4 draw in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semifinal on Tuesday.
In a high-scoring clash at Barcelona’s home ground, Atletico took an early 2-0 lead within the first six minutes, with goals from Julian Alvarez and Antoine Griezmann.
However, Barcelona responded swiftly as Pedri scored in the 19th minute, followed by Pau Cubarsí’s equalizer in the 21st.
Íñigo Martínez then put Barcelona ahead in the 41st minute, making it 3-2 before halftime.
Robert Lewandowski extended the lead to 4-2 in the 74th minute, seemingly putting the Catalan giants in control.
However, Atletico fought back dramatically, with Marcos Llorente scoring in the 84th minute and Alexander Sørloth netting a stoppage-time equalizer to seal a thrilling draw.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid and Real Sociedad will face off in the other semifinal’s first leg later today.
