COLOMBO: Sri Lanka’s Disaster Management Center (DMC) said on Tuesday that 7,258 persons belonging to 2,295 families in Ratnapura and Kalutara districts in the country were facing a drinking water shortage due to the prevailing dry weather.

Ratnapura also saw the highest temperature in the country in the 24 hours that ended at 9 a.m. local time on Tuesday, the Department of Meteorology said.

DMC Director General Udaya Herath said that they were using trucks to provide drinking water to the affected families.

The DMC said that dry weather was prevailing across the country, and the public must be well-hydrated.

Despite the dry weather, there was enough water for irrigation until May 2025, the Irrigation Department said, adding that farming should not be affected.
