KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) lawmaker Gyan Bahadur Shahi has urged the government to immediately deploy chief administrative officers in Kathmandu Metropolitan City and several other local levels, citing administrative paralysis.
Speaking at Tuesday’s House of Representatives session, Shahi criticized the KP Sharma Oli-led government for failing to act in the public’s interest.
He stated that the absence of chief administrative officers in many municipalities has brought local governance to a standstill.
“The government sent Singha Durbar to villages, but its essence never reached there. The Oli government has done nothing for the people,” he remarked. “Many municipalities, including Kathmandu, are without chief administrative officers. Teachers and employees across the country have not received their salaries. Even sanitation workers in Kathmandu Metropolitan City are unpaid. Will this government ever take responsibility?”
Shahi warned the government against deliberately obstructing local administration by withholding officials, stressing that such actions are harming the functioning of municipalities.
