KATHMANDU: Prominent linguist and educationist Chudamani Gautam has passed away at the age of 81.

According to family sources, he breathed his last on Monday while undergoing treatment in Kathmandu.

Born in Khamlalung, Tehrathum (now Aathrai), Gautam was widely respected for his contributions to linguistic and educational development.

He was popularly known as the “Grammar Guru” for his remarkable work in Nepali language standardization, modernization of vocabulary, and dictionary compilation.

Gautam’s English grammar books have been a staple in Nepal’s academic curriculum, from school to university levels.

His most renowned work, “Gautam’s English Grammar,” has been a guiding tool for generations of students.

Throughout his lifetime, he authored over 100 books, including works on grammar, spelling, and dictionaries.

He was cremated at Pashupati Aryaghat on Monday.

He is survived by his wife, one son and a daughter.

His passing marks a great loss to the linguistic and academic community of Nepal.
