26 years later, ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’ set to hit theaters!

KATHMANDU: Bollywood film Sanam Teri Kasam has been re-released in cinemas after nine years. Despite earning ₹9 crore upon its initial release, the film was a box office failure.
However, its recent re-release has seen impressive audience enthusiasm.
Following this trend, Shah Rukh Khan’s classic Dil To Pagal Hai is also set for a theatrical re-release.
Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Karisma Kapoor, and Akshay Kumar in an extended cameo, the 1997 blockbuster will return to Indian cinemas this Friday, 26 years after its original release.
Directed by Yash Chopra, Dil To Pagal Hai is a musical romance film that follows the love lives of a musical troupe, where two dancers (Dixit and Kapoor) get entangled in a love triangle with their choreographer (Khan). The film’s soundtrack, composed by Uttam Singh with lyrics by Anand Bakshi, remains iconic.
Made on a budget of ₹90 million (US$2.48 million), the film grossed over ₹710 million (US$19.55 million) worldwide, making it the highest-grossing Hindi film of the year. It received widespread critical acclaim for its direction, story, screenplay, music, cinematography, and performances.
Dil To Pagal Hai won several accolades, including three National Film Awards. Karisma Kapoor won Best Supporting Actress at the National Film Awards, while the film won Best Popular Film.
At the 43rd Filmfare Awards, it led with 11 nominations and won eight, including Best Film, Best Actor (Khan), Best Actress (Dixit), and Best Supporting Actress (Kapoor).
The film was also showcased at the 45th International Film Festival of India in the Celebrating Dance in Indian Cinema section.
Yash Raj Films announced the re-release on social media, stating, “The era of love and romance is making a comeback.” The news has been met with excitement from SRK fans.
Recently, Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan and Jawan delivered record-breaking performances at the box office, reaffirming his dominance in Indian cinema.
