KATHMANDU: In Biratnagar, workers contributing to the Social Security Fund, along with their spouses, are eligible for treatment at registered hospitals with discounted rates.

Notably, Nobel Medical College Teaching Hospital in Biratnagar has enhanced these benefits by waiving the co-payment for eligible patients.

Since the inclusion of various organizations under Nepal’s Social Security Fund, millions of contributors have benefited from its health provisions.

The Social Security Fund regularly collects contributions from its members, offering them and their spouses treatment subsidies at designated hospitals. To avail of this benefit, contributors or their spouses must seek treatment at hospitals listed under the Social Security Fund.

According to the Fund’s regulations, when a patient visits an outpatient department for treatment, the Fund covers 80% of the prescribed charges, with the remaining 20% to be paid by the patient.

The same applies when a patient is admitted for treatment. To make the process even more accessible, Nobel Medical College has partnered with various employer organizations to waive the co-payment, making it easier for patients to receive treatment.

According to Nobel’s public relations officer, Navin Dahal, the hospital has set up sufficient registration and willing counters to ensure smooth service for patients.

Under the Social Security Fund’s provisions, regular contributors and their spouses can receive up to Rs 25,000 in outpatient treatment annually and up to Rs 100,000 for inpatient care, with the 20% co-payment covered by the patient.

In cases of workplace or work-related accidents, the Fund fully covers the treatment costs. For other accidents, patients can receive up to Rs 700,000 in treatment subsidies.

Nobel Medical College also facilitates quick treatment for patients in need of emergency care, ensuring an efficient system for those requiring urgent assistance, as stated by Hospital Director Dr. Rajesh Nepal.

Led by Member of Parliament Dr. Sunil Kumar Sharma, Nobel Medical College Teaching Hospital has been working in collaboration with various communities and organizations to provide subsidized treatment to patients.

In addition, the hospital has been offering free treatment to extremely impoverished patients.

Through free health camps in Eastern Nepal and remote areas of the Far West, Nobel has successfully provided medical care to millions.

Patients referred from these camps also receive free treatment at Novel Teaching Hospital in Biratnagar and Kathmandu Medical College (KMC) in Kathmandu.
