Pedestrian safety at risk despite road crossings (photos)

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Valley has installed bridges and zebra crossings for pedestrians to safely navigate roads.

Recently, a new technology called Pelican Crossing, where pedestrians press a switch to cross, has been introduced in some areas to enhance convenience and safety.

However, lack of public awareness and negligence have led pedestrians to cross roads outside the designated crossings.

This dangerous behavior has contributed to an increase in accidents, with people often ignoring pedestrian bridges and zebra crossings, even when they are nearby.

Efforts to encourage safer road-crossing habits and raise awareness are urgently needed to prevent further loss of life and property.
