MP Gokul Baskota: No alternative to democratic republic
He further urged the Maoist Centre to clarify whether it is on a socialist or right-wing path.

KATHMANDU: In a speech at the House of Representatives on Sunday, Gokul Baskota, a member of the ruling CPN-UML, emphasized that there is no alternative to the democratic republic.
He questioned the main opposition party, CPN (Maoist Centre), for allegedly searching for alternatives to democratic republic, and raised concerns about the alignment of left-wing and right-wing ideologies.
Baskota asked, “Is the main opposition searching for an alternative to democratic republic? Is the same stove now burning for both leftist and rightist ideologies? If there is an agreement on that, rest assured, such a stew will never cook on that stove—whether for monarchy’s return or the end of the republic. Don’t be misled.”
He further urged the Maoist Centre to clarify whether it is on a socialist or right-wing path.
