KATHMANDU: Nepali students expelled from KIIT University, Odisha, have returned home.
By Friday, 301 students arrived—20 via Kakarbhitta, 36 via Belhiya, 83 via Jogbani, and 162 via Birgunj.
The university removed them after Nepali student Prakriti Lamsal’s death in the hostel led to unrest.
Around 800 students were stranded as the administration used bouncers to suppress protests.
Many faced hardships returning. Some were stranded in Bhubaneswar, later managing a train to Kolkata and multiple vehicles to Nepal.
“We traveled three days without food or money,” said Rakesh Yadav from Sunsari. Some students now fear returning, citing safety concerns.
Inspector Rajkumar Karki of Kakarbhitta Area Police Office confirmed that all returning students were sent to their respective destinations.
