‘Laaj Sharanam’ cleared by Censor Board, set for Maha Shivaratri release

KATHMANDU:  The Central Film Censorship Board (Censor Board) has approved the movie Laaj Sharanam, paving the way for its release.

Former minister and Nepali Congress leader Mohammad Aftab Alam had filed a writ petition against the film, claiming that a character in the movie resembled him.

He filed the petition at the Patan High Court while serving a life sentence for allegedly burning people alive in a brick kiln.

Earlier, the court had ordered a halt to the film’s promotion until censorship clearance was granted. With the approval now secured, Laaj Sharanam is set to hit theaters on Feb 26 (Maha Shivaratri).

The movie features renowned actors including Sitaram Kattel (Dhurmus), Mukunda Shrestha, Mahesh Tripathi, Bijay Baral, Aparna Thapa, Renu Yogi, Bijay Lama, Mala Limbu, and Sakkigoni stars Arjun Ghimire (Paadey), Sagar Lamsal (Bale), Harish Niraula (Krakos), Priyana Acharya (Munni), Kamal Mani Nepal (Khupika Bau), among others.

Directed by Kumar Kattel (Jigri Bro), the film is produced under the JPT Creation banner, with Nabin Shrestha as the producer and Ram Naresh Shah and Srijana Khadka as co-producers.
