Mother killed, son seriously injured as jeep hits scooter

KATHMANDU: A road accident in Pokhara claimed the life of a mother and left her son seriously injured after a jeep collided with their scooter.
The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon at Srijanachowk, Pokhara Metropolitan City-8, when a jeep (Ba 3 Cha 8977), heading towards Zero km, hit a scooter (Ga 13 Pa 3206) coming from the opposite direction.
According to police, 56-year-old Maya Gurung of Pokhara-11, Fulbari, who sustained critical injuries, passed away while undergoing treatment at Metro City Hospital.
Her 26-year-old son, Manoj Gurung, remains in the same hospital, receiving treatment for serious injuries.
The crash also damaged a parked scooter (Ga 7 Pa 5274) on the roadside.
Following the incident, police detained the jeep driver, 25-year-old Nirmal Gurung of Harinash Rural Municipality-1, Syangja.
Authorities have launched a further investigation into the accident.
