Two dead in Czech shop knife attack: police
Police have asked visitors to avoid the area.
PRAGUE: Two people died in a knife attack in a store in the eastern Czech city of Hradec Kralove, said the police on Thursday.
“The suspect attacked two people with a knife — one is in very serious condition, the other suffered injuries,” the police said on social media platform X. “The entire event is tragic. Both victims suffered injuries so severe that, despite all efforts by everyone involved, they could not be saved.”
The suspect was detained, and the situation “is under control,” said the police, adding they are investigating the attacker’s motivation.
The attack occurred at a shopping area in the city.
Police have asked visitors to avoid the area.
The victims are reportedly two women. Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala said on X: “What happened today in Hradec Kralove is absolutely incomprehensible and horrific. I am thinking of the victims’ families and express my sincere condolences.”
